Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu’s statement on the traceability investigation report issued by the U.S. intelligence agency

No way out for political tracing

Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, August 28. Ma Zhaoxu, Vice Foreign Minister, made a statement on the traceability investigation report issued by the US intelligence agency on the 28th. The full text of the conversation is as follows:

Recently, the U.S. intelligence agency concocted an investigation report on the so-called traceability problem. This so-called report is an out-and-out political report, false report, without scientificity and credibility. The United States also issued a statement, slandering and attacking China. The Chinese side expressed firm opposition and has lodged solemn representations with the US side.

We have repeatedly reiterated that tracing the source of the new coronavirus is a complex scientific issue, and it should and can only be researched by global scientists. However, the United States ignores science and facts, obsessed with political manipulation and intelligence tracing. They could not produce any real evidence, but they repeatedly fabricated lies to smear and accuse China. Their purpose is to use the issue of traceability to "shake the pot" to blame and spread political viruses. The use of intelligence agencies in the United States for traceability itself is an ironclad evidence of politicizing the traceability issue.

The US accuses China of being opaque and uncooperative on the issue of traceability. This is completely open-eyed and nonsense. China attaches great importance to and actively participates in global traceability scientific cooperation. Based on the principles of science, openness, and transparency, it has twice invited WHO experts to China to carry out virus traceability research. At the beginning of this year, international and Chinese authoritative experts formed a joint expert group, conducted a 28-day investigation and research in China, and released a joint China-WHO traceability research report, which reached authoritative, professional, and scientific conclusions for the global The traceability cooperation has laid a good foundation. We always support and will continue to actively participate in scientific traceability, but firmly oppose political traceability.

On the issue of traceability, it is the United States that is opaque, irresponsible, and uncooperative. The United States has so far refused to respond to the international community’s reasonable doubts about Fort Detrick’s Biological Laboratory and more than 200 overseas biological experimental bases in the United States, trying to conceal the truth and evade responsibility. The United States has the responsibility and obligation to give the world an explanation.

The politicization of the traceability issue by the United States is unpopular and has been widely opposed by the international community. More than 80 countries have sent letters to the Director-General of the World Health Organization, issued statements or notes, etc., to oppose the politicization of traceability issues and demand the maintenance of the China-WHO joint research report. More than 300 political parties, social organizations and think tanks in more than 100 countries and regions submitted a joint statement against the politicization of traceability to the WHO Secretariat. More than 25 million Internet users in China jointly signed an open letter requesting an investigation of the Fort Detrick base in the United States. These all reflect people's calls for justice.

Moral support from many, scant support. We once again warn the United States that there is no way out for political traceability. It will immediately stop poisoning the international traceability cooperation atmosphere and undermine global unity to fight the epidemic, and return to the right path of scientific traceability and cooperation in the fight against the epidemic.
